Clear skies and action-packed racing; Poole’s own, Maddie Saunders took the ladies title while a strong performance from Fraser Garnett saw him take to the podium in the Youth event.
With a clear sky, and the weather holding off, racing resumed at Harbourside on Sunday 25th July for the annual Ade Gale Laurels memorial event. Throughout the day, riders took support from the many spectators paying a visit to the quayside venue.
Sponsored by CBL Plant Hire Poole, the Youth event saw Ben Clarke take top honours, defending his title from fellow team mate Lewis Brinkhoff. The top spot was decided following a run off as both riders finished the match on 19 points. One point back from the pair was Poole’s own, Fraser Garnett, on 18 points, rounding off the three podium places.
In the ladies event, sponsored by GG Express Couriers, Poole’s Maddie Saunders took advantage of her home track knowledge to pull clear from her nearest rival by two points, finishing the match on 19 points. After 5 rides each, Lizzie Rigley – Porter could not be separated from Rebekah Humphries, both finishing the match on 17 points. A well fought run off saw Rigley-Porter take second from Humphries in third.
Sponsored by Precision Engraving Weymouth, the final event of the day saw the senior men take to the track. Heat four saw Poole’s Aaron Smith deny the event winner, Ben Mould, of a 20 maximum, showcasing some great form. This was enough to see the current ICSF World Champion, Mould take to a run off with Birmingham’s Chris Timms, both concluding the match on 19 points. A closely contested final ride for the pair saw Timms defeated allowing Mould to take the match honours. One point back, finishing on 18 points, Lucas Nowacki utilised his extensive racing experience to take the final spot on the podium, in third.
