Maddie Saunders makes it back to back indoor titles
Day 2 of the 2024 British Indoor Championships saw the Veteran Over 40’s riders compete. Racing for Poole is the rising star in the Under 40’s Aaron Laing competing in his first individual championship. Aaron showed lots of promise with some great racing and determination to finish on 12 points in joint 9th.
Also racing for Poole was the amazing Alan Nation scoring 12 points also. Alan always gives 110% and today was no different. Alan finished joint 9th overall but his score meant he also finished 4th in the Over 50’s, an fantastic result considering the tough competition in this category.
Flying the flag for Poole in the men’s open was the very talented junior Oliver Saunders and the super fast gating Fez Langoo. Both riders raced hard in their qualifying events but narrowly missed out on the big final. Oliver just 1 point off the qualifying score there is so much more to come from him in the future.
Well done lads!
Now for the big news, our very very talented and incredible Maddie Saunders did something very special. Racing to a 20 point maximum taking a second indoor title in a row to add to her double back to back outdoor titles, Maddie is now officially double British Indoor and Outdoor champion, something that hasn’t been achieved before in Women’s racing.
On her way to the victory she had a scintillating race against two of her closest competitors and pulled off an incredible first bend move to see her zip past the other riders and cruise to the win.
Everyone at Poole CSC would like to congratulate Maddie for all her fantastic achievements over the last two years and throughout a brilliant cycle speedway career.
We wish Maddie luck in 2025 when she will join our close neighbours Southampton for the season due to work commitments making it easier for her to train and hopefully progress to a hattrick of British titles and then the World Championships at the end of the season.
Well done Maddie, incredible performance!
