Another title comes back to Poole in a great day of racing in Ipswich
This weekend was all about the youngsters with their British indoor championships, the Little League in Ipswich.
First up were Iris Randall (Under 10) and Ezmae Laing (Under 8) in the Girls category. Both girls rode superbly in the heats with Iris qualifying for the A-final on 14 points and Ezmae just missing out to ride in the B-Final on 9 points. Iris rode to a very commendable 3rd overall in her final and Ezmae won the B-final.
Next up was the Under 10 category which saw the girls meet up with Poole’s Izacc Laing in a mixed boys and girls field. Our girls again rode incredibly well both qualifying for the C-Final with Iris taking 2nd and Ezmae 3rd which saw Iris pick up another 3rd place on the podium overall and Ezmae finishing in 4th overall in the Under 10’s Girls.
Izacc powered through the heats to make the A-Final and was leading until a slip caused a crash with Southampton’s Tom Comben leading to a rerun. This time around the super quick Izacc couldn’t quite get the gate but pushed Tom all the way to the line finishing in an amazing 2nd overall, brilliant considering he is classified as an Under 8.
Following this up was the Under 16 event which saw Izacc as first reserve. He rode in one heat collecting a second place and then rode to the win in the C-Final.
The Under 8 category saw siblings Izacc and Ezmae Laing compete. Ezmae raced to a tremendous 12 points in the heats and then finished 4th in A-final meaning a 4th overall.
Now for the big one, Izacc completed the heats on a maximum and then raced to gold in the A-Final taking the British Under 8 title adding to his national BYJL win for 2024.
Last event of the day was the “Youngsters” group which consisted of riders of all ages. Iris rode incredibly well considering the mix of ages in this group finishing on 5 points and finishing 3rd in the D-Final. Izacc rode in this match and considering his young age managed to bag 13 points in the heats and then coming in 2nd in the B-Final.
All in all a fantastic day in Ipswich for the young Comets.
Well done to the riders and families for flying the Poole flag.
