Newport v Poole
Reigning champions Poole opened the 2024 season away against the Newport team from South Wales of which Poole won the league last time out in 2023.
Carrying a much more disadvantaged team missing several of their top riders, Poole made the most of it with the match finishing with a narrow victory to the Home team finishing
Newport 99 – Poole 86
Despite being on the losing team it was Pooles Junior World Champion Kenzie Bennett who top
scored the match dropping only a single point finishing on 18 + 1 followed home by fellow
GB and England teammate Fez Langoo on 16.
The returning Greg Gluchowski finishing on a very impressive 16 + 1 points as our 3 heat leaders.
2019 Men’s World Champion Ben Mould top scored for the Newport side finishing on a maximum 14+2 from his 4 rides, with new regulations in place for this season gave Poole an extra 2 points for each race he appeared in.
Another impressive rider of the day was debutee Liam Bartlett coming in as a reserve for Poole finishing on a very impressive 6 points from 4 rides. Not bad for only 3 training sessions.
The rest of the Poole team put in a fine performance. Josh Nottle scoring a healthy 7 points along with veteran Bob Hayward also adding a respectable 7.
Club Secretary and Division 1 manager Colin Rowles added 6 to the total and Stevie Nation put in a hard fought effort to bring in 3 valuable points.
Well done to all the lads for taking the trip to South Wales.
Pooles nexts SSW regional Division 1 fixture will be on Sunday 28th April for the first home match of the year against the Horspath Hammers from Oxford.
This match will also feature a development league match featuring youngster and vets.
